Our very first book was of course a cookbook! These are wonderful recipes collected by the Sisters in our Monastery in Spokane, Washington over many years.

Many of the recipes have little comments about how they came to be used in the monastery -

Here are a few examples:
Spareribs and Sauerkraut
Recipe Note: This recipe works well with German Sausage. This was one of our first recipes that we used when we first started eating meat. Sister Jean Zygmant was head cook then and her good old Polish background came to the fore!
Old Community Favorite
Apple Bread
Recipe Note: This came from an old cookbook, the kind where the cover is barely on, the pages must be fragilely turned and crammed full with old newspaper clippings from Dorothy Dean and other treasures. It still bakes up well!
Sister Mary Rita Dolan
Tomato and Rice Casserole
Recipe Note: This is a cherished dish that was brought by our Founding Sisters in 1875. We have it at least once every other week cooking as above and then putting out a plate of different types of cheese that the sisters add as they want.
